The Pursuit of Happiness

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for – and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing. It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool – for love – for your dreams – for the adventure of being alive.

I had an interview yesterday that landed my foot into my dream career. When asked if I was actively pursuing a full-time corporate marketing career, I told her “I don’t think so. I’m looking for a position that sets my soul on fire, rather than something where I have to set myself on fire for someone else’s dream.” True story.

This year, I am daring to dream, to follow my hearts longing. Getting out of my comfort zone, teaching cardio kickboxing, freelancing my email marketing skills, networking with folks. A new outlook on life. A new approach to love, business, and life. I will ask for what I want. I won’t settle for what I know isn’t right. My worth will not be determined by someone who doesn’t even know who I am. I will not be someone else for your comfort.

And I owe it all to my former employer. If I hadn’t learned how I didn’t want to be treated, I may have never had the guts to go out and get what I deserved.

2017 is definitely shaping up to be the beginning of the rest of my life.
